James Qu Interview

Premium webmaster graphics - Brushes, Vectors, Icons, PSD layouts

James Qu is an IT graduate from Queensland Australia, he is also the owner and writer of PSDvault. In this interview James will be sharing a little bit of information about what he does, how he started an gives our readers an insight to what his favourite tutorials and sites to visit are.

Hello James, First of all I would like to thank you for taking the time to do this interview.

1 Could you please tell our readers a little bit about yourself? Where you are from and what you do?

Hi there, my name is James and I currently reside on the Gold Coast, Australia. I have been living on the coast for 2 years and enjoy it very much. Previously I have been living in Sydney and Brisbane for a few years for university, then relocated myself after I completed my degree.

I work full-time as a system administrator (looking after an array of servers, company networks and websites) for a local finance/mortgage management company and run my blog PSD Vault as a part-time hobby.

2 What made you start PSDvault, where did it all begin?

I remember the first version of Photoshop I used was version 5.0, and I love it ever since. I learnt Photoshop pretty much all through self-study, because this is a hobby type of thing for me and I always like to play around and discover the hidden functions.

I started PSD Vault mainly because I thought I could perhaps share some of my findings and experiences about Photoshop to those who in need. So I started putting together some tutorials and guides, and published them on PSD Vault – that’s when the journey begins.

3 What inspires the content you create?

I’m a regular reader of Advanced Photoshop Magazine, which I think is an awesome source of inspiration. I browse deviantArt and flickr a lot for inspiration, too.

4 From the beginning, what is your favourite piece of work/tutorial that you have created?

I don’t really  have a particular favourite tut in terms of effect, but I do enjoy the creation of  Create Awesome Abstract Text Effect with Brush Dynamics and Filters in Photoshop.

5 Do you work on any other sites other than PSDvault?

PSD Vault is the only site I’m working on. However, I do sometimes write guests post for sites such as myinkblog.com and webappers.com

6 Are there any sites/blogs/tutorial sites that you enjoy visiting?

I visit photoshoplady.com, webdesignerdepot.com and qbrushes.net on daily basis.

7 If there was one piece of advise you could give to our readers, what would it be?

Well, I guess this would be generic – if you want to achieve something in life, follow your passion, work hard and don’t ever give up.

8 Finally, Where can our readers find you?

I’m on facebook, twitter and flickr.

Don’t forget, you can always follow us through  twitter or rss to keep up to date with the latest tutorials, articles and interviews.
